Q: WHEN DROPPING OFF MY CHILD IN THE MORNING WHERE SHOULD I PARK?
A: You should park on the side of the road right after you pass the school. Please do not block the bus lane or park in the apartment building’s lot next to the school. Please do not let students out of the car on the street opposite the school, and no U-Turns are allowed in front of the school during drop-offs. And remember, you may not drop off any earlier than 8:30am
Q: WHERE DO THE KID’S GO AFTER GETTING OFF THE BUS/GETTING DROPPED OFF?
A: The kids are to go around the school building to the right. They are not to cross the parking lot. The kids can then play on the playground. When the morning bell rings, their teachers will be outside showing them where to line up. Their teacher will then take them into the building and to their classroom.
Q: WHEN PICKING UP MY CHILD FROM SCHOOL, WHERE DO I PARK?
A: You may park behind the school during this time as typically no students will be on the playground at this time. If it is in use, the orange fence will be up blocking entrance. You must go instead to sign your child out, provided your child is on the pick-up list with the school secretary. IMPORTANT: as the buses are lined up on Waukegan and around the corner on Green Street, be mindful of the “STOP” arms out on the buses!! It is against the law to drive pass. Your driving privileges can be suspended for three months if you are convicted of illegally passing a stopped school bus.
Q: WHAT IS A NEW FRIEND/OLD FRIEND?
A: Since our classrooms are multi-grade we use a new friend/old friend terminology to distinguish between the two grades in the class. For example, a kinder is a new friend while a first grader is an old friend. Then in second grade the student is once again a new friend and the third grader is an old friend. This can be confusing for a student who has transferred to Landmark in one of the years you are considered an old friend. They think “Hey! I am new here, I am a new friend.”
We also use this terminology for parent volunteers who are in chairperson positions. Most positions are a two-year term. Year one (new friend), you would be in a learning/training position and year two (old friend) a leader position.
Q: WHAT IS A LANDMARK AMBASSADOR?
A: This is a person or family that you can call to get any question answered regarding Landmark, school events, and activities. They are noted in the school directory (which will come home shortly after the start of school) with an asterisk by their name.
Q: WHERE ELSE CAN I GO TO GET ANSWERS TO ANY QUESTIONS I MIGHT HAVE?
A: Landmark Groups Message Board. You will be sent an e-mail invite to become a member of this Landmark exclusive message board at the beginning of the school year. It is a place for Landmark families to quickly communicate and keep up to date with current events. This is where you can find the date of the next Culver’s night, the time the Winter Fest begins, etc. Have a question about a homework assignment? Post away! Someone just might have an answer! Keep in mind that this site is the responsibility of moms who care to share info and is not under the direct administration of Landmark.
Q. WHAT IS CELEBRATION OF LEARNING?
A. Celebration of learning is an event held twice a year usually in conjunction with Book-fair. Parents are invited along with their children, to come into their child’s classroom and see what they have been doing in class. There are activities that you can participate in with your child as well. This is not a parent-teacher conference but a time to come “celebrate” and learn about your child’s school day and see how they are being taught the great things they are learning.
Q. WHY AM I NOT GETTING E-MAILS FROM THE CO-DIRECTORS OF THE LCO?
A. We don’t have your e-mail address in our distribution group. The Schools e-mail list and ours are 2 seperate lists maintained by different peopls. E-mail the co-directors that you would like to get e-mails about LCO events. If not directed otherwise, the e-mail address with the request will be the one used to add to the e-mail list.
If you used to get our e-mails and are not getting them anymore – did you change e-mail accounts and not let us know? Some e-mail systems do not send failure notices back to decrease information for SPAM mail creators to use.
